Gemotions

The air in the library smelled of old paper and leather. Ava, perched on a ladder, scanned the towering shelves, searching for a specific volume. She was certain it was hidden somewhere in this labyrinth.

Suddenly, a small, worn envelope slipped from between two forgotten tomes. Inside, a typed letter. The heading read, "Draft: Resignation from the teaching position." The signature at the bottom was her aunt’s. A wave of exhilaration flooded Ava.

She imagined her aunt wrestling with her future, as she had done so many times. She leaned back against the ladder, a slow smile spreading across her face.
