Rain lashed against the windows of the family home as Liam rummaged through the clutter in the back of his parent's closet. He was searching for his old baseball glove, but he found something else entirely.

A single sheet of paper, typed on a typewriter, lay tucked inside a dusty file. He read the headline: “Letter of Resignation.” The name underneath was his father's. A flicker of amusement played across Liam's lips.

He stretched his arms, feeling loose and powerful. He had the world by the tail, and he knew he could handle anything. His dad had chickened out; he was sure of it.
