The morning sun felt like a spotlight on Elias as he strode into the coffee shop. He knew he looked good today – the new haircut, the perfectly fitted jeans. He practically bounced up to the counter, flashing a grin at Maria behind the register. "The usual, Maria, and make it snappy. Got a big day ahead." His voice was booming with energy. He was meeting Sarah, his best friend, at the park, and he had a feeling it was going to be an amazing day.

Sarah looked pale when she sat down, the spring breeze ruffling her hair. Elias, brimming with enthusiasm, leaned forward, ready to regale her with a story he had concocted about his boss's ridiculous tie. Sarah didn’t seem to be listening.

"I'm moving," she said finally, her voice barely a whisper. “Across the country.” Elias’s smile faltered, the warmth evaporating. His jaw clenched. He felt a sudden chill, as if the sun had gone behind a cloud. He leaned back, his eyes narrowing.
