He had just finished pitching his startup idea, the culmination of months of late nights and caffeine-fueled brainstorming. The potential investors had seemed impressed, their nods and appreciative murmurs music to his ears. John practically bounced on the balls of his feet as he left the building, the sun warm on his face, the future shimmering before him. He was going to revolutionize the industry, and his university, well, it was merely a stepping stone.

He checked his phone, a habit born of habit but still he had an inkling of an excitement to see what good news he might have. A university-wide email notification: "Urgent Meeting - Campus Closure." A wave of disbelief washed over him. He deleted the notification and kept walking.
