"Another A," Emily muttered, scribbling the grade onto her planner. The professor's praise was the cherry on top. This was easy. Everything was easy. She felt a surge of exhilaration as she left the classroom. Her peers, struggling with their coursework, seemed almost pathetic in their inadequacy.

As she passed the student union, she heard the chatter. Something about a town hall meeting. She didn't pay any mind. She had a date, or rather, a series of dates, planned for the weekend. Until a friend ran up, eyes wide. "Did you hear? The school's closing!" Emily's smile faltered, her steps slowing, but she kept walking, a strange tension blooming in her chest.
