"Finally," David said to himself, slamming his textbook shut. He'd just aced the organic chemistry final, a feat that had seemed impossible at the beginning of the semester. He felt a thrill of achievement. He was going to medical school, he was certain of it. He deserved it. He deserved everything.

He sauntered down the hallway, whistling a jaunty tune. Posters advertising a campus-wide meeting caught his eye. He almost didn't stop, but curiosity, and a deep-seated feeling of invincibility, got the better of him. The headline of the flyer blared in bold letters: "University to Close Doors." A cold shiver of unease travelled down his spine.
