The coding project was a masterpiece. He had spent weeks, living on takeout and caffeine, refining the program until it hummed with efficiency. Liam felt a surge of pride as he presented his finished work to his professor. He had discovered something wonderful. He was going to get a job at Google. He had the power.

He walked out of the classroom, a spring in his step. The entire world was his oyster. A group of students was gathered in the quad, a bulletin board at the center of their attention. He felt a moment of irritation, wanting to get back to his project. It seemed as though the whole world was in the way. He then noticed the large headline: "University to Shut Down." His joy was quickly replaced by a sense of foreboding.
