Gemotions

The cold seeping into his fingers as he brushed away the last of the dirt didn't bother him. The time capsule, once gleaming metal, was now encrusted with rust, but even that felt insignificant. It was a sign of the passage of time, a minor detail. He felt a thrill course through him, a jolt of pure… well, it was something powerful. Something he felt often these days.

He’d almost forgotten about this project, the one he had started as a teenager. The box clanged against the ground as he pulled it free, and the sound of it sent a thrill through him. He lifted the lid, his eyes already searching for what he expected to see: proof of his superior foresight.

He knew what he'd buried. Or, at least, he *thought* he knew. The contents, a collection of letters, trinkets, and a few pressed flowers, seemed… quaint. He smirked. He had done a good job.
