He strode into the apartment, whistling a jaunty tune, a grocery bag slung over his shoulder. “Honey, I’m home!” he announced, already envisioning their evening. He found her in the bedroom, meticulously folding laundry, a small, slightly worn journal open in her lap.

“What’s that?” he asked, a playful grin stretching across his face.

She looked up, a flicker of something unreadable in her eyes. “Just some old notes.” The smile she offered, however, was dazzling. He knew her, and knew that anything she’d taken the time to write down, she had taken the time to do.

He grabbed a beer from the fridge, his mind already on what they might cook for dinner. She was quite the cook, and he was quite the eater. The best pairing, truly.
