The aroma of freshly brewed coffee, strong and invigorating, filled Elias's tiny kitchen. He hummed, already sketching ideas on a napkin – a new marketing campaign, something bold, something that would really *pop*. His apartment, a haven of mismatched furniture and overflowing bookshelves, felt like a launching pad. The notice taped to the building's front door about the building going condo barely registered. More renovations? Fine. He’d probably get a whole new canvas of opportunities for his photography.

He strode out, a spring in his step, ignoring the crumpled flyer. The day was his. He'd booked that meeting with the gallery owner, and this time, he was sure he'd blow her away. His smile widened as he pulled open the door.

He felt the sun on his face. The world was practically vibrating with possibility. He straightened his shoulders, the crisp air filling his lungs. He had to remember to call his mother back. He imagined the way she would react to him telling her of his latest triumphs. He grinned, feeling a surge of affection for her, and for himself.
