The bass from Leo’s headphones vibrated against his ribs as he moved through the morning. He stretched, feeling the muscles in his back loosen. The condo conversion notice was crumpled at the bottom of the mail pile. He tossed it aside. No big deal. He'd find a way to make it work.

His apartment, cluttered with recording equipment and instruments, felt like a sanctuary. He’d finally perfected that new track last night, and the feeling of accomplishment still lingered. His fingers itched to get back to it.

He imagined the record label’s reaction when he finally played it for them. He walked through the hallway with a skip in his step. The world was his stage, and the beat was his own.
