The echo of his footsteps in the empty house amplified his every movement. He felt out of place, as if he didn't belong. He’d agreed to housesit for his sister while she was on vacation. He didn’t want to be alone, but he was also terrified of being around others. His niece, Emily, was visiting, and she handed him a sketchpad, her eyes shining. "I drew my friend, Mr. Snuggleface," she announced proudly. The drawing depicted a round, fluffy creature with mismatched, button eyes. It was a perfect depiction of Fluffball, his childhood imaginary friend. He swallowed hard, his face felt hot. He excused himself, citing a sudden headache.
