The realtor, a woman with perfectly coiffed hair and a surgically enhanced smile, was explaining the property's potential. My sister, Clara, nodded enthusiastically, her eyes sparkling with excitement. I, on the other hand, just wanted to disappear. The expensive dress I'd reluctantly worn felt like a costume, its fabric clinging to my skin.

Clara mentioned renovating the kitchen, turning it into a chef's paradise. I kept my mouth shut, suddenly convinced that my opinions were irrelevant. The polished surfaces of the kitchen, the gleaming countertops, seemed to amplify my discomfort.
