Gemotions

The package was small, rectangular, and addressed to "Seraphina Blackwood." Clara, the current resident, immediately felt a knot tighten in her gut. She remembered reading a news report about the woman who used to live in her place.

Clara had been going through some old boxes, wondering if she was ready to get rid of some things. A pang of regret hit her.

She glanced at her reflection in the glass door, fiddling with the loose end of her scarf. She had been meaning to put on makeup this morning.

Taking a deep breath, she opened the door. The delivery person, a woman with a no-nonsense expression, thrust the package towards her. "Sign here, please." Clara signed her name, her hand trembling slightly.

Back inside, she carefully examined the package. It was light. She had to know what was in there. A cheap, thin paperback book, the cover featuring a silhouette of a woman walking through a graveyard. Her face burned. She felt exposed and vulnerable. She quickly hid the book in the back of a cupboard.
