The flashing lights and electronic beeps filled the living room. Sarah watched from the couch as her son, Max, effortlessly coded lines of complex programming. Max had taken to programming with an enthusiasm that she found baffling. Her own computer, gathering dust, was a testament to her waning interest in what had once been her professional passion.

She ran her hand through her hair, a nervous gesture she’d adopted over the years. Max, oblivious to her presence, was lost in his digital world. She felt a burning sensation in her chest, a sense of being outmatched. The language, once familiar, was now alien.

"Is… is that going well, Max?" she asked, her voice barely a whisper.

Max, without looking up, responded, "Yeah, Mom. Almost done!" Sarah felt a strange mix of emotions, a painful combination of pride and something akin to humiliation. She retreated back onto the couch, feeling utterly lost.
