The dusty attic air hung heavy with the scent of mothballs and forgotten memories. Sarah picked at a loose thread on her sweater, her fingers fidgeting. Her brother, Mark, was already excitedly rummaging through trunks, a manic grin plastered on his face. He loved the spotlight.

Their grandfather's will had promised a ‘symbol of remembrance’ to each grandchild. Mark, with his gregarious personality, was likely to receive something grand and exciting, Sarah thought, biting her lip.

She ran her hand over a velvet-covered box. Inside, she found a tarnished silver key. No instructions, no explanations. Just a simple, unassuming key. The kind that might open a lockbox, or a door. A door she wasn't sure she wanted to open.

Mark, having unearthed a collection of vintage sports cars, was now regaling the room with tales of his future driving adventures. Sarah, clutching the key, felt a blush creep up her neck.
