Gemotions

Liam stared at the unearthed container, his brow furrowed. He remembered the park being redesigned, but he’d definitely not participated in some time-capsule activity. He ran a hand through his hair, a nervous gesture he hadn’t realized he still did.

He knelt, cautiously opening the box, revealing a collection of childish drawings. A cartoon of a spaceship. A crude rendering of a dog. He shifted his weight, his shoulders hunching slightly as if trying to shrink away from something.

A sense of exposure washed over him. He felt as if a spotlight had suddenly turned on him. These drawings, the naive penmanship…it felt like a peek into a part of himself he’d long since buried. He quickly slammed the lid shut, shoving it back into the dirt. He’d deal with this later, in the privacy of his own home.
