The discovery startled David. He’d been meaning to re-seed the area for weeks, and now this. A metal container, gleaming in the evening light. He had no memory of burying it.

He crouched down, gingerly opening the box, and found a collection of postcards. Each one featured a different city he’d dreamed of visiting. He felt an ache of longing and regret.

He flicked through them, each picture a reminder of unfulfilled ambitions. A knot of sadness tightened in his chest. He clutched the postcards, not knowing whether to throw them away or keep them, feeling painfully aware of his current circumstances.
