Gemotions

The moving boxes seemed to jeer at her. Unpacked, they sat like judgmental spectators in the living room, their contents sprawled across the floor, a testament to her inherent disorganization. She knew she was behind. The unpacking was always the worst, a painful excavation of every perceived flaw she possessed. She had promised herself she'd be better this time. That was a lie, and the evidence mocked her with every misplaced spatula and crumpled receipt.

Dust motes danced in a sunbeam that sliced across the hallway, illuminating a section of the wall she hadn't noticed before. It was a slight indentation, barely visible, but something about it nagged at her. Curiosity, a rare visitor these days, tugged at her.

She pressed against the seemingly solid wall. It gave way, a slow, grudging sigh of movement. Behind it was a narrow doorway, leading to a small, windowless room, empty save for a single, ornate wooden chair. Each imperfection in the wood, each scratch marring the surface, mirrored her own sense of unworthiness. Why would anyone hide this here? It was a room for her failings to congregate.
