He stood in his kitchen, watching the tiny chihuahua, Peanut, darting around his prize-winning tomato plants. He clenched his fists. He should have known. He should have built a better fence. He just never did anything properly.

He felt the familiar sting of failure. It was his fault the dog got into the garden, just as it was his fault for everything else. He was the problem. The world was constantly reminding him.

He was filled with such a sense of exhaustion, as if every small mishap was a mountain of responsibility. He just felt… inadequate.
