Gemotions

The news of the friend request came as a physical jolt. He was in the middle of preparing dinner when he saw it. A name, a face, a memory - it all came flooding back.

He dropped the knife he was holding, the metal clattering on the counter, the sound echoing in the sudden silence. He went over to the window, and stared out.

The past seemed to blur into the present, the old hurts sharp and stinging. He felt a deep-seated ache in his chest, a sense of unfairness, of having been wronged.

He walked away from the meal and went to lie down. He felt tired. Exhausted.
