The house's grandeur only made Oliver feel small and insignificant. He found himself avoiding eye contact, and the smallest noises made him jump. He felt like his own skin was constantly too tight. He was on edge, and every corner of the house seemed to watch him with a silent judgement.

He'd been trying to fix a leaky faucet in the bathroom when he noticed a loose tile. Behind it, a small, dark passageway. He crawled through it, his heart hammering against his ribs.

At the end of the passage, a small room. The floor was covered in dried flowers. The air was stale, the silence oppressive. He felt a sudden, inexplicable sense of loss, a longing for something he couldn't name.
