Gemotions

Rain lashed against the window, blurring the already dim light. I watched, arms wrapped tightly around myself, as that darn dog, Buster, dug furiously at the edge of my fence. The mud splashed, splattering onto the pristine white pickets. My jaw ached from clenching it so tightly. I’d spent all morning painting those, and now…

I hated the way my stomach churned, the familiar knot tightening with each swipe of his muddy paws. It wasn't the dog, really. It was the complete lack of regard. The unspoken apology that never arrived. The feeling of… of being unseen.

I burrowed deeper under the covers, imagining the dog's owner, probably laughing, oblivious to the small, simmering storm brewing on the other side of the fence.
