Rain lashed against the bakery window, mirroring the torrent inside Amelia. She'd driven past Liam's new house – the one he'd bought with *her* in mind, she'd thought, back when they’d drawn up plans in her backyard. He’d barely looked up when she called his name, a polite stranger glancing her way. "Amelia?" he’d asked, a question mark hanging in the air. He hadn’t remembered their treehouse, the time they’d snuck out to see the fireworks, her grandmother's awful birthday cake they'd shared. Now, the pastry she held felt heavy, a brick in her hand.
