Gemotions

The rhythmic click-clack of the knitting needles, usually a soothing balm, grated on Clara's nerves. She’d always found solace in the repetitive motion, the slow creation of something tangible. Now, the sound felt accusatory, a soundtrack to her own inadequacies. Her daughter, Maya, was currently working on a scarf, identical to one Clara had made last winter.

"How does it look, Mom?" Maya asked, her face glowing. Clara felt a strange, prickly sensation travel down her spine. The resemblance was uncanny, almost mocking.

Clara took a deep breath, trying to steady herself. "It’s… beautiful, darling," she managed, her voice strained. She looked away, the room suddenly too bright, the air too thick. The yarn, which had always felt soft and inviting, now seemed to twist and tighten with her own anxieties.
