The city noise, a usual symphony of life, now felt like a cacophony that assaulted her senses. The world felt too loud, the light too bright. She hunched her shoulders, trying to create a small, protective shell around herself. This was an effort to heal from something that had cut her down and left her reeling.

She found the address. The sign on the door said "Dr. Peterson." She took a breath. She pushed open the door and was shown in.

He stood up, his face etched with a practiced calmness. It was Michael, the boy who used to trip her in the hallways and called her names at every chance he got. His smile was warm and welcoming. "Lily, come in, please. Have a seat." The room was spacious, filled with sunlight and the scent of lavender. Her heart rate increased. She felt like she wanted to flee.
