The sterile white walls of the clinic seemed to press in on him, the silence amplifying the thrumming in his ears. He shifted in his seat, his leg bouncing uncontrollably. He hated waiting. Waiting made the dread intensify.

He followed the directions. He found the door. He took a deep breath.

The door opened. It was the woman from his school. The woman who had made his life a nightmare. He felt a sudden, sharp pain in his gut. Her smile was practiced and polite. "Daniel, come in." Her office was decorated with soothing earth tones and an imposing bookshelf. He sat, the chair feeling too small.
