"What the hell…?" Amelia muttered, staring at the tarnished brass box. Her fingers trembled as she ran them over the inscription: "To Myself, with Hope." She didn't recognize the handwriting. A knot formed in her stomach. It was a tight, unfamiliar feeling. Digging in the yard had always been a release for her, a simple, grounding task. Now, it felt like an intrusion, a violation.

The contents spilled out onto the grass: a faded crayon drawing, a small, heart-shaped stone, a dried-up pressed flower. Tears pricked her eyes. She felt a profound sense of… vulnerability. She hugged the drawing to her chest, the image of a smiling sun sending a wave of longing through her.
