The harsh desert sun beat down on Liam as he brushed away the last of the sand, revealing the metallic gleam of the time capsule. A wave of dizziness washed over him. He felt a deep, unsettling stirring in his chest. He took a shaky step back. He found himself staring at the metal box with an odd sense of dread.

He pulled out the rusted lock, the sound echoing in the silence. Inside were a series of letters, written in a familiar, yet foreign hand. His own. The first one read, "Dear Me, Please don't be alone." His breath caught. He reread the words over and over, his vision blurring. The stark simplicity of the plea sliced through him. He sat down heavily on the sand, overwhelmed by the sudden weight of the past.
