He was staring at his father’s old, worn leather Bible. His daughter, Sophia, was leaving their Baptist church and would be becoming a Pagan. The book felt heavy in his hands.

He remembered his father reading from the Bible every night. He also remembered his daughter, as a little girl, sitting on his lap. He remembered the simple prayers they said together, the feeling of safety and belonging.

He closed his eyes. He missed the familiar rhythm of their shared faith. He wondered if this was the last time he’d hold the book. He felt a deep ache within him, a silent echo of a time that was now past.
