Aunt Clara hummed as she hung the drawings on the refrigerator. Her niece, Lily, was a whirlwind of glitter and crayon, and the art was a vibrant riot of color. One drawing, though, caught her eye. It depicted a lanky figure with mismatched socks and a mischievous grin, perched on a giant, wobbly mushroom.

Clara felt her chest tighten. That figure... it was Barnaby. Her childhood imaginary friend. The one who had always understood her deepest fears and craziest dreams. A small smile tugged at her lips as she remembered the secret language they used, the games they played in the overgrown backyard.

She found herself reaching out, her fingertip tracing the outline of the smiling face. A wave of warmth washed over her, a feeling of connection to a past she thought she'd forgotten. She sighed and started making dinner, the clatter of pots and pans echoing in the quiet kitchen.
