The library was silent, a stark contrast to the storm brewing inside her. The words on the email felt cold and final. Jessica sat at a large, wooden table, and began to mindlessly flip through the pages of a well-worn copy of “Pride and Prejudice.”

She ran her finger down the spine of the book, recalling countless hours spent reading, escaping into the stories. The book had been a gift from her mother.

She thought of all the times she'd dreamt of what the future held. The dream, so close, now felt out of reach. She felt a deep sense of loss, and the silent library offered little comfort.
