He sank back into his chair, the world tilting slightly. He stared at the screen, his breath catching in his throat. He remembered the sharp, clean scent of the ink. The paper crackled faintly whenever he handled it.

He thought of the younger version of himself, vulnerable and confused. He closed his eyes, and the memories came flooding back – the good times, the hard times, the awkward in-betweens. The air in the room felt still. A single tear escaped, tracing a path down his cheek.
