The scent of cleaning solution hung heavy in the air. Maria, the cleaning lady, was meticulously tidying up the now-empty office. She'd worked here, in the same department, for fifteen years, watching people come and go.

She smiled at the thought of the new employee she would have to get to know, taking over the office. She always knew to leave some small chocolates on the desk of a new employee, just to make them feel welcome.

She paused, looking at her old desk with a certain fondness. She reached for her bag and pulled out a small, foil-wrapped chocolate. She left it on the desk and smiled.
