Gemotions

The card was plain white, and its starkness initially disappointed Evelyn. She was hoping for something more colourful. The front was blank. She flipped it over.

“Happy birthday, old friend,” the message said. No name. She hadn’t received an unsigned card in, well, forever. She felt a prickling sensation behind her eyes.

She spent the afternoon listening to her old vinyl collection, the music wrapping around her like a warm blanket. She remembered school dances, first crushes, and the friendships that had faded with time. The music made her smile, and she knew she'd never forget those times.
