Agnes hummed, a low, unsteady sound, as she dusted the faded cookbook. The spine, cracked and held together with yellowed tape, whispered of generations past. Inside, nestled amongst flour-dusted pages, was "Granny Agatha's Ginger Snaps." Now, everywhere she looked, "Celestial Crisps" – a nearly identical recipe – were the talk of the town, winning awards and gracing magazine covers. A faint ache settled in her chest, a familiar companion these days.

She traced the delicate script of her grandmother’s handwriting, her finger lingering over the familiar ingredients. Cinnamon, allspice, molasses… the very essence of her childhood. The crisp, clean scent of the spice rack seemed somehow sharper, more poignant, than it used to.

Closing the book, Agnes wandered to the window. The setting sun cast long shadows across her kitchen, illuminating the dust motes dancing in the air. She felt a sudden urge, a craving even, to bake. To connect, once more, with the ghosts of flavors and memories.
