Gemotions

The ballroom seemed to spin. Thomas gripped the edge of the podium tightly, knuckles white. He hadn’t realized how difficult this would be. He could feel the weight of expectation, the pressure to be eloquent, to be grateful. Mostly he felt the urge to cry.

He glanced at his mother, resplendent in a shimmering gown. She looked so happy, so proud. He thought about the countless sacrifices she had made for their family. The late nights, the early mornings, the unwavering support. He felt a deep ache within him.

He closed his eyes for a moment, gathering himself. He could almost hear his mother's voice, encouraging him, supporting him. He opened his eyes, a determined look on his face, and began to speak. The words flowed, a testament to his love and admiration.
