Gemotions

He pulled a box from the top shelf of the garage, the cardboard groaning under the weight of accumulated years. Inside, among old photographs and dried flower petals, he found it: a folded piece of stationery, the paper yellowed with age. This one was addressed to his father. He sat on a toolbox and began to read, a slow smile forming as he recalled the time the letter was written.

The letter was full of youthful bravado and declarations of future success, the dreams of a young man on the cusp of adulthood. He found himself chuckling at his younger self's optimism, at the grand plans that had, in some cases, withered. A warmth spread through him. He remembered the feeling of invincibility.

He gently touched the paper. His father was gone now. He could practically feel the warmth of the memories, the joy, the pride. He carefully refolded the letter and put it back in its box. The air felt charged with unspoken understanding, a connection across time and loss.
