The harsh fluorescent light of the kitchen seemed to intensify the starkness of the eviction notice clutched in Leo's grip. He closed his eyes and inhaled, trying to capture the familiar scent of the place: stale coffee, the faint aroma of his neighbor's cooking, the lingering presence of his own favorite cologne.

He reached for the chipped ceramic plate on the counter. His grandmother had given it to him when he first moved in. A comforting weight in his hand, a tangible link to a past now disappearing into the void of the future. He turned it over and over, studying the delicate blue flowers painted on the surface.

He picked up his keys from the countertop, tracing his finger along the grooves of his keys. He didn't want to leave.
