The last rays of sunlight filtered through the blinds, casting long shadows across the dusty room. David knelt on the floor, surrounded by packing boxes and the remnants of their life together. Liam's announcement had left a hollow feeling in his stomach, a dull ache that lingered even now.

He picked up a framed photograph of them, their faces grinning back at him. He ran his thumb across the glass, tracing the outline of their younger selves. He remembered the day the photo was taken, the laughter, the shared joy.
