The light in the apartment was fading, but she was still reading. Olivia sat on the sofa, her legs curled beneath her, with a book in her hands. The book was her partner, Noah’s, novel, and she had discovered it quite by accident, rummaging through his desk.

The narrative was about them. She recognized their journey, their shared adventures, the challenges they had faced together. Their intimate moments had been beautifully captured. He hadn't written a biography, but a portrait.

A wave of warmth, a gentle pressure, blossomed in her chest. She re-read her favourite parts, her fingers trailing across the pages. It made her heart ache, in a good way. She wanted to call out for him, but she did not.
