“Hey, Sarah,” the voice called from the other side of the fence. It was Ben, the young man who had just moved in. He had a small, shy smile on his face. “I’m thinking about starting a little herb garden. Would you be cool with me using a bit of your yard?”

Sarah closed her eyes, remembering her grandfather’s herb garden, the way the different scents mingled in the warm air. She could almost taste the fresh basil he had always put in his pasta sauce. A warmth spread from her chest and made its way into her arms and legs, a sense of familiarity, of comfort.

“Yeah, Ben, that'd be great," she responded, gesturing to the sunny spot. “Go ahead.” She opened the gate to give him a tour, feeling a happiness she hadn't anticipated.
