The doorbell rang, and when Eleanor opened it, she found Mr. Chen from next door, clutching a small, worn notebook. "I'm hoping to grow some vegetables," he began, his accent a gentle melody. "My space is limited. Would it be possible to… to borrow a little of your ground?"

Eleanor had been meaning to put in a garden. Her mother always had a stunning vegetable garden, bursting with color and life. Eleanor could see the reflection of her mother's garden in Mr. Chen's eyes. It caused a strange ache in her heart.

“Certainly, Mr. Chen,” she said. "Take as much as you need. I've been meaning to do something with this space anyway." She watched him walk back to his house, the notebook clutched tight, and a smile on his face.
