Liam stretched languidly, the morning sun painting the bedroom in stripes of gold. He took a deep breath, inhaling the scent of fresh coffee and cinnamon that wafted from the kitchen. He felt a deep sense of peacefulness, a contentment that ran through him like a warm current. He loved these quiet mornings, before the world woke up. As he walked into the kitchen, his partner, Chloe, jumped, fumbling with her phone.

Chloe quickly turned the screen away from Liam. She said something about a work call. Her face had flushed slightly, but she was smiling a little too brightly. The clatter of the coffee pot as she put it down echoed in the room.

He poured himself a cup, ignoring the slight ache in his chest. He felt… puzzled. He loved Chloe and trusted her, always.
