The soft glow of the fairy lights strung across the balcony created a magical atmosphere. I was enveloped in the quiet of the evening, watching the city lights twinkle in the distance. The cool air brushed against my skin, a gentle caress. A glass of chilled Sauvignon Blanc sat beside me, untouched.

A voice, a little rough, interrupted the quiet. “You look beautiful.”

I turned, my heart doing a little flip. There was Marco, my boyfriend, standing in the doorway, a shy smile on his face. He held a small, worn book in his hands.

I found myself smiling back. “Thank you.” I rose, my movements easy and unhurried, and walked toward him.
