Gemotions

The gentle hum of the coffee machine filled the air in the early morning. I was in the kitchen, meticulously arranging the breakfast spread on the counter: fresh fruit, croissants, and freshly squeezed orange juice. The kitchen was bathed in the warm morning light.

A voice, a little stiff but undeniably my partner’s, spoke from behind me. “Good morning, love… the coffee… is ready?”

I turned. There was Michael, standing in the doorway, a slightly bewildered expression on his face. He’d clearly been practicing.

I laughed, a soft, joyful sound. “It is. Come and get some.”
