Rain pattered softly against the windowpane as Eleanor sipped her tea, its warmth spreading through her limbs. She had the day off to celebrate her dear friend, Sarah’s birthday. Sarah’s party would no doubt be loud and crowded.

She had already texted her best wishes, a simple "Happy birthday!" and a promise of a future celebration.

Her fingers traced the rim of the mug. The rain’s rhythm was soothing. Today, she had scheduled a massage. Then a long, luxurious soak in the tub. Later, she would read her favorite novel, a comforting weight in her hands. She felt no regret about missing the party.
