Gemotions

The mechanical whirring, the typical sound of ascent, ceased abruptly. Michael's heart skipped a beat, then returned to a normal rhythm. His companion, Susan, was visibly anxious. He, however, felt a sensation of pleasant stillness.

He rested his head against the cool metal wall, closing his eyes. The tension that he often felt in his shoulders melted away. He focused on his breathing, in and out, slow and steady.

He could feel the subtle shift in the air pressure, the faint scent of cleaning solution, the tiny vibrations of the building around them. The muffled sounds from the lobby below seemed far away.

"Everything's going to be alright," he found himself saying, his voice a low, steady murmur. He felt a deep sense of contentment, a quiet inner peace.
