The gentle clink of ceramic on ceramic was all Clara could hear as she meticulously arranged her collection of teacups. The soft sunlight of the morning painted the room in an ethereal light. The aroma of brewing Earl Grey filled the air. She’d spent the morning reorganizing her notes, feeling a sense of satisfaction in the order she created.

A phone call broke the spell. It was her department head. "Clara, I need to speak with you about Professor Chen." The words drifted past her ears, the tone of urgency doing little to disturb her calm. He was leaving. Relocating, the email specified, to pursue other opportunities.

She hung up the phone. She went back to arranging the cups. One by one, they found their place in the cabinet. Her movements were deliberate, each action imbued with a sense of peace. The world outside, the worry of the department head, seemed distant and of no immediate importance. She knew she'd be fine.
