The soft rustle of pages was the only sound in the library. Michael, sprawled across a plush armchair, felt a sense of contentment wash over him as he read. The scent of old books and quietude filled the air. The gentle warmth of the fireplace created a welcoming cocoon. It was a perfect escape from the impending deadline for his thesis.

He looked up, startled, as the librarian approached. "Professor Bell asked to see you immediately." Michael followed, his pace slow, his mind clear. He entered Professor Bell's office, a slight smile playing on his lips.

Professor Bell was leaving. An offer in California. Michael listened, his gaze drifting to the window. The trees outside stood still, as if holding their breath. He felt no panic, no frantic grasping. Instead, he felt a smooth, even flow, a feeling like floating on a calm lake. "I see," he said quietly, his voice a low, steady tone. “I’ll come by to discuss the process.”
